Edinburgh Castle
Sited on top of an extinct volcano, gaining stunning views across City of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle is a powerful national symbol and part of Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site.
A primary attraction within Edinburgh Castle is the Scottish Crown Jewels. The crown, sword and sceptre are amongst the oldest regalia in Europe and are displayed with the Stone of Destiny, the coronation seat of Scottish Kings.
The castle is also engulfed in Military history and each year the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, one of Edinburgh's most symbolic events, is held here.
Other key attractions include Mons Meg; a huge cannon which is among Europe's oldest surviving medieval bombards; the famous One o'Clock Gun, fired almost every day since 1861; and the Dog Cemetery, where mascots and officers' pets have been laid to rest since the 1840s.
